I don’t know guys…maybe I’m just too hardcore with this D/s stuff, but it frustrates me that there is this idea that ANY discomfort in a D/s relationship means it’s abusive.

“He better not tell me to do something when I had a bad day. That’s abusive!”

Now, I recognize there are “Doms” out there who prey on women and do horrible things. Due to the nature of power-exchange there are some Doms who try to pass off their mistreatment as just being in control. They are neglectful, cold, not attentive, and use their subs as doormats. That is 100% wrong. It’s also wrong to constantly punish all the time and do so without any positive reassurance or conversations afterward. That kind of behavior is definitely abusive.

My beef is this idea that ANY discomfort is abuse. And I have to reference my post where I say that being a submissive is a lot like being and employee. For example, every day I go to work and do shit that I would rather not do. The reward is my paycheck and the fulfillment of having a career. If I don’t like the rules that are set up for me, I can always quit. But within ANY job, 9 times out of 10 there will be some activity that you don’t enjoy. Even if 99% of the job is wonderful, there might be some aspect that you would rather do without.

So if your Dom still asks you to cook/clean because you’re having a bad day, liken it to your job. Your boss still expects you to show up for work if you are having a bad day. If you don’t like being held accountable for your actions, then you should probably ask yourself why you are in a power-exchange relationship. Certainly, the Dom has the right to tell you not to serve on a day you’re not in the mood, but he also has the right to tell you to do it anyway. That doesn’t mean he’s abusing you. It means he’s in charge and you agreed to being in the position of service. If I hire someone to work for me, I expect them to work regardless of the mood they are in. Serving a Dom is a lot like that. If you want to do things on your terms, then why exactly did you sign up for this dynamic?

A lot of subs say, “Well if he loves me then he wouldn’t ask that of me.” I call bullshit on that one. Look…I’m a parent. I ask my kid to do shit that he’d rather not do on a regular basis. A lot of it actually is about him growing. Showing him that he can tackle anything. Some of it is because he needs to pay his dues. NONE of it is abuse. It’s a part of life that we do things that we may not be in the mood for. That doesn’t make the person telling us to do it a horrible human being. I get frustrated because as a sub who TRULY wants this dynamic and doesn’t want control, I see nothing wrong with a Dom who isn’t concerned with keeping me comfortable 100% of the time. Loving and caring for me doesn’t mean bending to my every desire/mood/whim. Sometimes it means making me show him that I’m truly committed to serving. I don’t see anything wrong with that.

So while I recognize that my opinion might be unpopular, I have to say what I feel. If you want to serve, then be ok with serving even with it’s not comfortable or convenient to do so. If every moment you serve has to be that way for you, then ask yourself who is really in charge? A Dom can love you to pieces and still ask you to do what you agreed to do on a day you’re not in the mood. It doesn’t make him a horrible person. He’s simply following through on your commitment.
